Weasel Victory 17-03 to ensure mission readiness

SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, SC, UNITED STATES

    11.08.2016

Story by Airman 1st Class Kathryn Reaves

    20th Fighter Wing

The 20th Fighter Wing is scheduled to conduct Phase II operational readiness exercise Weasel Victory 17-03 at Shaw Air Force Base, S.C., Nov. 15 to 17.

The exercise is designed for Airmen to practice wartime skills and test operational wartime capabilities, said Master Sgt. William Senecal, 20th FW Inspector General Inspections superintendent.

Senecal said the exercise is expected to enhance mission readiness and ensure Team Shaw Airmen are prepared for different wartime scenarios and chemical environments. It is also expected to increase and enhance interoperability so Airmen can fly, fight and win.

The intent of the exercise is to improve 20th FW personnel’s ability to accomplish combat taskings, assigned missions and mission support in a realistic and contested environment. The Phase II exercise is a training requirement that consists of simulated combat operations at a deployed location.

Personnel on the installation can expect to see an increase in emergency response vehicles, varying flying hours and additional activity around Shaw AFB. These occurrences will be a result of various scenarios dictated by the exercise.

20th Medical Group staff will be participating in the exercise, but base medical services are expected to be provided as normal.

Some 20th Force Support Squadron facilities are scheduled to have adjusted hours of operations. These facilities include the Child Development Center, Youth Center, main fitness center, and Afterburner Grill.

The CDC and the Youth Center will have extended care hours for children already attending the centers whose parents are participating in the exercise. Individuals can sign up for extended care by contacting the centers.

The main fitness center will be unmanned from 9 p.m. Nov. 14 to 5 a.m. Nov. 18. This means patrons must be enrolled in the 24-hour access program to have access to the fitness center. The annex will continue normal operations.

The Afterburner Grill will be closed for the duration of the exercise. However, the Chief Master Sgt. Emerson Williams Dining Facility will operate at normal hours.
