Combat Center Fire Department cooks up chili fund raiser

With the Combined Federal Campaign in full swing, entities across the base are finding ways to contribute to their fundraiser of choice. The fire department did just that while informing patrons about fire safety and serving chili as hot as the fires they fight.
CCFD once again opened their doors to the installation’s community by hosting their 19th annual Fire Prevention Chili Luncheon, Oct. 12, 2016, to raise awareness of fire prevention and contribute to the CFC.
According to Daniel Iniguez, lieutenant, CCFD, the event served as an opportunity to educate children about potential fire hazards and to bring the Combat Center community together to raise money for the campaign.
CCFD provided a variety of displays and demonstrations to promote Fire Prevention Week including a static fire engine and firefighters in full equipment load. Additionally, the fire department provided children with activities such as a bounce house and a reading group featuring Smokey the Bear and Sparky the Fire Dog. Throughout the luncheon, they sold food and beverages, donating the proceeds to their CFC fundraising efforts.
“This is a great opportunity for families to come out and learn about fire prevention,” said Jessica Goldsborough, spouse of Warrant Officer 1 Harry Goldsborough, administration personnel officer, Headquarters Battalion. “My son loves fire trucks and firefighters, so this gives him the opportunity to see them up close and learn about fire safety.”
