Love tossed the coin to start the game and spoke with both teams to encourage sportsmanship and encouragement.

“The (3rd Special Forces Group Support) Battalion Family readiness support assistant, Jacqueline Kellman informed me of this opportunity and I was honored to accept,” said Love.

“From speaking with the school officials, there are numerous opportunities for the GSB to provide mentorship to the students of E.E. Smith and neighboring schools,” said Love.

“I know, as the HHC commander, I am definitely interested in working with the school on a quarterly basis to begin a joint mentorship and/or community service program.”

    Future partnership

The football game paved the way for a future partnership between the GSB and E. E. Smith Senior High School. Love also made time to speak with cadets from the school’s Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps.

“I think (the JROTC) can be one of our biggest initiatives and influential programs we can impact,” said Love.

“After speaking with Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Glockzin, the JROTC commander/program director, their program is missing a viable unit on the installation to partner and train with.

“I believe the diversity of the GSB alone and the 3SFG (A) offers many training, mentorship and community service opportunities to the cadets at E. E. Smith,” said Love.

“It was amazing to see that the school has one of the largest JROTC programs in the county, however, has not been able to maintain a consistent level of support from the installation. I think GSB, 3SFG (A) can definitely fill that gap and begin a long and viable partnership to begin training the future leadership of our Armed Forces.”

“It was truly an honor,” said Love. “I believe the relationship and image that we build with our youth is very important and an integral part of their personal and professional development. To be chosen for an event of such caliber was a blessing and an honor.

“The students, staff, cadets and local officials were very receptive of me, we genuinely had a great time, and it was a blast interacting with so many Families and cadets.”
