The Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) kicked off at Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina, Sept. 19 and is scheduled to continue until Oct. 28.

The CFC was established in 1961 as the only authorized solicitation of federal employees in the workplace. Over the past 54 years, the program has helped raise more than seven billion dollars and has provided a way for military members to help a community, whether it is across town or across the globe.

“CFC is a philanthropy program comprised of more than 22,000 national, international and local charities sponsored by the federal government,” said 2nd Lt. James Lazas, 20th Comptroller Squadron financial services officer and Wing Staff Agency CFC representative. “It allows government employees and military members to give to charities of their interest.”

Last year Team Shaw helped raise approximately $67,000 of the more than $860,000 donated by the Palmetto State campaign.
Each unit on Shaw has an assigned representative who briefs their respective personnel with the goal of 100 percent contact, meaning face-to-face communication with every person in the unit.

“As an individual, I know there’s been a lot of people who’ve helped me along the way throughout life,” said Capt. Ryan Scott, 20th Medical Operations Squadron physical therapist and 20th Fighter Wing CFC representative. “I feel like I have a responsibility where if I’m in a position to help someone else out, I should do it.”

In addition to processing donations through unit representatives, military personnel can donate via myPay and civilian personnel can donate via Employee Press. CFC donations can be paid in a lump sum or over a period of time.
