Nashville District names Malcomb Employee of the Month for July 2016

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Aug. 25, 2016) – Allen Malcomb, a project engineer assigned to Engineering Construction Division’s Middle Tennessee Resident Engineer office located at the Center Hill Dam, is the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District’s employee of the Month for July 2016.
Malcomb is recognized for his significant contributions, exemplary technical skills and personal initiative as a contracting officer and civil engineer who handle small contracts.
According to Lt. Col. Stephen Murphy F. Murphy, Nashville District commander, Malcomb supported the District mission by reviewing and negotiating approximately $13.5 million in remaining requests for Equitable Adjustment claims. He said his work was critical in completing the $122 million Center Hill Dam Barrier Wall contract.
“His work helped bring closure in a very equitable and professional way to this extremely important project and he accomplished this while also working as the project engineer on two projects at Wolf Creek dam,” said Murphy.
"Allen is a very dedicated employee, a great team member and does an excellent job in balancing a large workload that involves multiple projects at various stages,” said construction resident engineer Bill Debruyn, Nashville District Middle Tennessee Resident Office.
Frank Mills, Nashville District construction support branch chief, who works with Malcomb said he is very well deserving of the award and is one of the most steadfast and dependable engineer in the district.
“Allen is a huge asset for us at the Middle Tennessee Resident Engineer office at Center Hill and to the district,” said Mills. “He always makes time to executed detailed project reviews and provide critical feedback to the project delivery team thus settling contract packages up for successful award and construction,” said Mills.
Mills said he is meticulous in executing quality assurance inspections and testing, helping to avoid any opportunity for shortcuts and ensuring delivered products meet quality and design standards and criteria.
“He is the eyes of the project delivery team during construction efforts, he is an extremely proactive and reliable liaison ensuring appropriate members are engaged and the district is fortunate to have him in this position,” said Mills.
Malcomb said he loves his job, working and interacting with people, and is surprised and humbled by the recognition of the award.
“I appreciate the award and I think it is nice to be recognized for doing my job,” said Malcomb.
DeBruyn said Malcomb resolved numerous contractor requests for equitable adjustment in time execute the project and his commitment and dedication is vital to the Nashville District.
“He works hard to ensure that both his work, and the work executed on the contracts that he oversees, is done correctly and that the Government is getting the best benefit it can for our stakeholders,” said DeBryun. “His technical knowledge, skills, and attitude are exemplary and are very deserving of this recognition."
Malcomb has been with the Nashville District for six years and credits much of his success to Debruyn, for his training and leadership skills.
“I really enjoy my job, interacting with contractors and the opportunities it has to offer being able to work with various projects around the district,” said Malcomb.
Malcomb and his wife Carol reside in Lebanon, Tenn. He loves spending time with family, church friends. He is an active member at the Joy Church in Mt. Juliet. His hobbies include hunting, fishing, traveling and vising different baseball stadiums across the country. They have a goal of visiting every Major League Baseball Park in the United States.
Murphy said Malcomb’s hard and fast work, professionalism, dedication to mission execution, and superior performance is a great credit to the Nashville District, the region, and the Corps of Engineers.
