NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Aug. 26, 2016) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers director of Real Estate visited with Nashville District area lakes, recreation areas and a marina concession Aug. 18-19 to learn about the district’s missions and to interact with managers and real estate specialists.
Brenda Johnson-Turner visited Nashville for the first time and expressed gratitude as she toured J. Percy Priest Dam, Elm Hill Marina and Nashville Shores Lakeside Resort and Marina.
“I am very excited to see the district’s progress and tour the marinas and concessionaires, which highlight the great work that the Nashville Real Estate and Operations team has done on behalf of the Corps of Engineers and Army,” said Johnson-Turner.
Larry Edgmon, general manager of Nashville Shores Lakeside resort and Marina, briefed Johnson-Turner on new additions to the park during a tour.
He said Nashville Shores is a family-friendly water park that features a wave pool, lazy-river pool, a beach, lake cruises, and a newly built Treetop Adventure Park which consists of an aerial adventure zip-line course located in a wooded area.
Johnson-Turner also visited the Nashville Shore Lakeside Resort camping area, lakeside cabins and recreational vehicle camping sites.
“I’m glad she came here for a visit so she could see the many new features that Nashville Shores has to offer and it allowed her to see first-hand how we work with the Corps of Engineers to maintain our facility,” said Edgmon.
The two-day trip also provided her the opportunity to meet with leaders, receive program overviews and briefings, to be introduced to staff members and to recognize individuals for their duty and performance at the Nashville District Headquarters.
Mike Abernathy, Nashville District Real Estate Division chief; Eric Crafton, Nashville District Real Estate chief of Acquisitions and Technological Resources; and Ashley Klimaszewski, Real Estate Division Management and Disposal Branch chief; welcomed Turner and William White, the Great Lakes and Ohio Division chief from Cincinnati, Ohio.
During the meetings the staff showcased how the Nashville District coordinates and executes real estate actions that supports other U.S. Army Corps of Engineers districts.
“Nashville is a great district,” said Johnson-Turner. “It is phenomenal how they maintain over 400,000 acres and over 56 commercial concessions within the boundaries of the Nashville District.”
The Nashville District Real Estate Division’s staff were excited to host their division and headquarter leaders.
“We were thrilled to have been chosen to host our national director of Real Estate and our Regional Chief of Real Estate in the Nashville District,” said Klimaszewski. “It is not often that we get such a unique opportunity, so we were very excited for their visit.”
Abernathy said the visit went well and both Johnson-Turner and White had the opportunity to discuss Real Estate changes and challenges for the year.
“We are very excited about her visit and extremely glad the staff had the opportunity to provide her with an overview of the Nashville District’s Real Estate mission related projects and her taking the time to visit,” said Abernathy.
Before departing Johnson-Turner thanked the staff and took the opportunity to meet with the Real Estate team and talked with each of them individually about their role in supporting regional and national missions.
“It’s an honor and humbling experience to see all the hard work you do in making this district better,” said Johnson-Turner. “I’m always impressed by the districts and the Corps of Engineers for the things we are able to do.”
