COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Soldiers from 4th Sustainment Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, and their spouses participated in married couples training given by the 4th Sustainment Brigade Unit Ministry Team at Cheyenne Mountain Resort August 12, 2016.

The 4SB UMT used the Army Strong Bonds Prevention and Relationship Enhancement Program (PREP) to conduct relationship resiliency training intended to help couples build a stronger foundation in their marriage.

“The Army is great at providing training so Soldiers are prepared for any mission but how many couples receive training on how to be a good husband or wife? That’s why we have this program (Strong Bonds) so we can assist with that,” said Chaplain (Maj.) Paul Lynn, chaplain, 4th Sustainment Brigade, 4th Infantry Division.

Couples listened to Lynn as he spoke on a variety of topics including communication danger signs, speaker listener technique, hidden issues, and solving problems. The spouses also participated in practical exercises all intended to help strengthen marriages.

For Spc. Cameron Jason, Troop F, 6-17 Attack Reconnaissance Squadron, 4th Combat Aviation Brigade, 4th Infantry Division and his wife of three years, Spc. Janay Jason, 59th Quartermaster Company, 68th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 4SB, this was the first time they attended an Army Strong Bonds training session. They both agreed this was a great experience.

“Chaplain Lynn provided a lot of great information on building a strong marriage. I like how he used his own experience having been married himself for awhile,” Cameron said. “I also like how this is set up so everyone can speak freely on certain situations or what bothers them.”

Janay added, “Being able to listen to other couples allows us to use their experiences and ways they handle situations and apply them to our own marriage.”

“I believe these Strong Bond sessions are great for married couples. There’s an additional Strong Bonds program for Soldiers who are seeking to get married,” Lynn added. “It’s said that marriage is 50/50 but in reality it’s 100/100. Marriage is tough and it’s something each has to work on and contribute to. I hope for the couples that attended today were able to get something out of it to help make and keep their marriages happy and strong.”
