KAUNAS, Lithuania – Soldiers from Bravo Company, 3rd Battalion, 69th Armored Regiment, attended Lithuanian Land Forces Day in Kuanas, Lithuania, July 15, 2016 and participated in a change of command for Lithuanian Land Forces at Kuanuas castle.

The Commanding General of Lithuania Land forces commands all Lithuania land forces in the country. Brigadier Gen. Valdemaras Rupsys was the incoming Commanding General, taking over for Maj. Gen. Almantas Leika who served four years in that position.

Various allied and partner nations sent representatives to attend the change of command including Germany, Portugal, and the United States. Distinguished guests at the ceremony included Maj. Gen. John L. Gronski, native of Moosic PA, Commander of the 28th Infantry Division, Pennsylvania Army National Guard, Juozas Olekas, Lithuanian Minister of National Defense, and Lt. Gen. Jonas Vytautas zukas, Lithuanian Chief of Defense.

Maj. Gen. Gronski, said, “It is important to continue to train with Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, and other members of the alliance in order to keep Europe strong. It’s all about increasing our ability to maintain interoperability and build readiness, readiness to deter.”

Lithuanian Land Forces Day is on the anniversary of the Battle of Grunwald, which was fought on July 15, 1410, when Lithuanian and Polish forces worked together to defeat a common foe. Lithuania has long experience in working with allies to ensure the safety of its citizens. Lithuania still works to strengthen the bond it has with its allies. They continue to build readiness and improve interoperability with Poland and many other nations.

The Soldiers of B Co. are training with their Baltic allies in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve, a U.S. led effort being conducted in Eastern Europe to demonstrate U.S. commitment to the collective security of NATO and dedication to enduring peace and stability in the region.
