JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO, FORT SAM HOUSTON – “Attention to orders!” boomed a voice over the loud speaker. “The President of the United States has reposed special trust and confidence in the patriotism, valor, fidelity and abilities of Kenneth D. Jones….”
Soldiers of the 4th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) stood rigid at the position of attention on Fort Sam Houston’s MacArthur Parade Field as family members, friends and colleagues of Brig. Gen Jones witnessed his promotion ceremony July 9.
As the reading of the promotion orders concluded, Jones, who had only moments before relinquished command of the 4th ESC in full ceremonies, proudly accepted the rank of Major General. Then, his long-time friend, mentor and fellow Aggie, Maj. Gen. (retired) Bud Wilson, performed the oath of office formalities as Jones recited the oath reaffirming his commitment of service.
“There are so many people here today that I want to thank through our various connections over the past 35 years,” said Jones. “Whether it was through working at Hallmark Cards, attending College at Texas A&M, living in Berryton, or service in various military units throughout the years.”
Maj. Gen. Jones’ next assignment will be at the Pentagon where he will become the Mobilization Assistant to the Director, J4, of the Joint Staff.
The promotion and celebration of achievements highlighted Jones’ hard work and sacrifices and he in turn recognized his family and friends who have stood strongly beside him throughout his military service.
“No one should or can take personal credit for one’s success,” he concluded. “If I had to say one thing to everyone today, it is that you all contributed to my life and accomplishments in many different and special ways. Without that support network, nothing would have been possible.”
