The German Armed Forces Badge for Weapons Proficiency, or Schützenschnur. Badges from the Bundeswehr can be earned by U.S. military personnel of all grades, but is only allowed to be worn by enlisted members. Officers can receive the award, although it is not currently authorized to be worn on their uniforms. The badge is one of the few foreign awards requiring no individual approval request to be forwarded up the serviceman's chain of command to the United States Senate for acceptance.
The bronze award is earned for shooting a two different weapons (rifle, pistol or machine pistol) with all scores in the “bronze” qualifying area. To earn silver or gold, a soldier must fire three weapons (pistol, rifle or machine pistol, and either a machine gun or anti-tank weapon) with corresponding scores in the “silver” or “gold” zone.
If the shooters qualify, the badges will be a permanent part of the recipients’ official records.
Marshall Center shooters are awaiting the scoring of their marksmanship for qualification.
