Two systems that have been in use since the 80's; the Interim Work Information Management System, or IWIMS, and the Automated Civil Engineer System, or ACES, which and are now being replaced by the new Tririga system, a much needed transition from old to new according to AFCEC.

"The old system had run the course of its life," said Lt. Col. Rockie Wilson, 11th Civil Engineer Squadron commander. "There have been so many upgrades in technology and better ways of doing things with internet based platforms."

The old IWIMS system was a standalone system not connected to the internet and customers had no way to access it.

"The new system is supposed to be more customer friendly and an easier way of submitting, tracking and accomplishing work," Wilson said. "It will integrate different functions that previously were a very manual and cumbersome process. Now the system (Tririga) is supposed to do a lot of that for you."

Instead of using two outdated systems, Tririga is a single system that allows CES to manage the life cycles of facilities, while increasing operational, financial and environmental performance.

"Ideally, it allows the Air Force to save millions of dollars, and end game, it might work out that way because it allows you to put everything on a timeline," said Senior Airman Dustin Bissette, structural journeyman and Tririga Immersion Team lead. "You can see how frequently you are working on things and if you're constantly fixing roof leaks, we can make the determination to replace the roof."

The system is still new to the U.S. Air Force and 11th CES is in the middle of a learning curve.

Airmen are learning the system, giving feedback to developers, and teaching the system to other CES offices and facility managers.

The change from old to new affects not only CES members, but everyone on base.

"It's pretty unbelievable the level of responsibility and scope of things we're involved in," Wilson said. "CES is so diverse yet so ingrained into Joint Base Andrews. I couldn't be more proud of our mission and the level of responsibility of our Airmen. There's not much on this base that CES isn't involved in some way shape or form, and if we aren't involved, they quickly find they need CES. It's a major responsibility, but it's something that we embrace."

The impact is immense, but there are still mixed reviews on the change to Tririga.

Daryl Blackwell, William A. Jones III Building facility manager, expressed that, like many other new products in the beta phase the system has many kinks and bugs to iron out.

Lack of resources are another challenge CES Airmen face, such as mobile devices needed to use the wireless features of Tririga.

"Their concerns are probably pretty valid. There were some growing pains with Tririga," Wilson said. "We had to invest time in training, invest time into resubmitting work request, but once it's done it'll be so much easier from there forward. I think that investment in time is well worth it."

Eight months into use at JBA, Tririga is still very much a learning process, an investment, a bumpy road and a work in progress, but something that Andrews is pioneering for future bases and can take pride in.

Scott Air Force Base, Illinois, and McConnell Air Force Base, Kansas, are scheduled to be the next two bases to implement Tririga and AFCEC is slated to have the system at full operating capability for active-duty and Air National Guard units by July 2017.
