Twenty-three Indirect Higher Agreement personnel and Master Labor Contractors were awarded for their hard work and dedication to Marine Corps Installations Pacific June 1 on Camp Foster.
The MLCs and IHAs are retiring later this month after serving a combined total of 504 years of service to MCIPAC.
The years came and went too quickly, according to Kyoko Hirota, the longest serving MLC with 37 years and eight months of service.
“I don’t know where all the time went, it feels like I just started working,” exclaimed Hirota. “I enjoyed the time I spent with my co-workers and I love my job.”
The MLCs and IHAs were awarded with plaques from Brig. Gen. Joaquin F. Malavet and gifts from the people they shared their years of service with.
Every single MLC and IHA that is retiring will be missed, according to Malavet, commanding general of MCIPAC-Marine Corps Base Camp Butler, Japan.
MCIPAC provides jobs to more than 3,200 MLCs throughout the country of Japan, and heavily rely on them to help us work with Japanese locals. They continue to allow MCIPAC to strengthen power projection with our allies and partners, according to Malavet.
“We thank you for your countless years of dedicated service,” said Malavet. “We wish you and your family continued success and happiness.”
