The chief of the National Guard Bureau and the Slovenian ambassador to the U.S. announce developments that have grown out of the partnership between the Colorado National Guard and the Republic of Slovenia at a press conference May 1 at the Omni Interlocken Hotel in Broomfield.
“The nearly quarter century of partnership between Colorado and Slovenia has tremendous value for our nations and allies,” said The Adjutant General of Colorado Air National Guard Maj. Gen. H. Michael Edwards. “Colorado and Slovenia’s relationship is quickly evolving amid a complex security situation in Eastern Europe that involves a refugee crisis, and the threat of terrorism...”
The Colorado-Slovenia partnership is part of the National Guard’s State Partnership Program (SPP). The SPP is a low-cost, small footprint Department of Defense program managed by the National Guard Bureau and executed by the states.
The Colorado-Slovenia partnership dates to 1993 after the fall of the former Soviet Union and the break-up of Yugoslavia when United States European Command employed the National Guard to assist nations in Central and Eastern Europe to prepare for NATO membership.
