MILLINGTON, Tenn. - Navy Recruiting Command (NRC) is conducting the next installment of its Ask Me Anything (AMA) session over Facebook on Feb. 12.

AMA is a live chat utilizing social media (Facebook or Instagram) with active duty personnel to answer questions from Navy applicants.

The session provides the potential applicant with the opportunity to ask questions in a no-pressure environment that they might not otherwise ask in a recruiting station.

“It is engaging youth on their terms in a space they are already comfortable with,” said Michelle Lee, diversity program advertising manager for NRC. “We are bringing the expert to them.”

Each session starts with an announcement that is posted to the page. As the chat goes live, participants can comment directly to the announcement post. Throughout the designated time slot, people post questions and Navy experts provide answers.

One of the active duty participants for this session is Command Master Chief Marilyn Kennard, command master chief for Naval Support Activity Mid-South.

“The live chats provide a fantastic back-and-forth conversation between the active duty Sailor and the potential applicants,” said Kennard. “The amount of questions and feedback that we get from the participants is phenomenal and it really speaks to how important this non-pressure environment can be for someone who is considering joining the Navy.”

The latest installment of the AMA will focus on Senior Enlisted Leadership. Two female Command Master Chiefs will be on deck to answer the questions of potential Navy applicants.

In the past, the AMA has featured Surface Warfare Officers, Healthcare Officers and Navy Chaplains.
NRC consists of a command headquarters, two Navy Recruiting Regions and 26 NRDs which serve hundreds of recruiting stations across the country.

The overall mission of NRC is to recruit the best men and women for America's Navy to accomplish today's missions and meet tomorrow's challenges.
