BAGHDAD "Ÿ Soldiers from the 414th Civil Affairs Company, 256th Brigade Combat Team inspected the renovation of schools in the northwest area of Baghdad May 14.

The first school, in the Khadra district looked to be in good shape and doesn?ft need a full renovation, according to one member of the civil affairs team.

The Soldiers learned the main concern was window and door locks which needed replacing. Paving part of the playground and increasing the height of the security wall were also brought up for discussion.

The reconstruction effort of the second school, also in the Khadra district, was hindered by a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device that exploded in front of the school.

The renovation, completed by a local Iraqi contracting company, was destroyed in the explosion May 12. Almost all the front windows and several doors were knocked out resulting in the school having to be renovated a second time.

Following the inspections, Soldiers distributed flags and newspapers to the residents of the Khadra district.
