Bearing ruck sacks full of gifts, Troopers road marched to Santa’s Workshop here recently to help Jolly Old Saint Nick spread holiday cheer.
Soldiers and Family members from 1st Battalion, 82nd Field Artillery Regiment, 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, along with other units from 1st Cav. Div. Artillery, ruck marched from Clark Elementary School to Santa’s Workshop to donate gifts Nov. 14.
“This is about taking care of Soldiers and their Families, and making sure that every child here on Fort Hood is able to have a special holiday season,” said Col. Patrick Gaydon, DIVARTY commander. “The elves didn’t make enough toys this year, so we’re going to help them out.”
Going back several years, the ruck march to Santa’s Workshop has become a growing tradition for Troopers, with nearly 180 volunteers participating this year.
“The tradition began with 1st ABCT and was kept on with DIVARTY, and was a chance to give back to the community and for our Soldiers to get together for a team event,” said Command Sgt. Maj. Berk Parson, DIVARTY senior enlisted advisor. “Any chance to get together and build the team is good, and to be able to give back as well is twice as good.”
