ROUGEMONT, N.C.— U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Robert E. Livingston Jr., Adjutant General for South Carolina, recognized North Carolina Army National Guard Soldiers who supported the South Carolina flood response and recovery efforts in October during a ceremony at Camp Butner, N.C., Nov. 14, 2015.

South Carolina experienced unprecedented flooding throughout many areas of the state in October due to historic rainfall.

More than 500 North Carolina Guard Soldiers assisted during the flood response. Livingston walked through the formation to personally thank each Soldier and present them with his coin as a token of recognition and appreciation for their efforts.

After an Emergency Management Assistance Compact was signed with the North Carolina National Guard, North Carolina Guard Soldiers were brought in to the South Carolina National Guard flood response mid-October as Task Force North Carolina, primarily to provide additional engineering assets and manpower. Their missions included critical tasks such as the emergency restoration of roads and damage assessments to infrastructure, among others.

“You restored the lifeline for rural South Carolina,” Livingston said to the troops during the ceremony. “You made it possible for people to have emergency services and for children to go to school. Thank you so much for what you have done for the people of South Carolina, thank you for the great friendship and partnership that we have between South Carolina and North Carolina, and your service definitely does not go unnoticed.”

Unable to attend the ceremony, North Carolina Army National Guard aviation units associated with the North Carolina Helicopter and Aquatic Rescue Team (NC-HART) also assisted SC-HART with search and rescue missions as part of the Guard’s flood response efforts, and were recognized by Livingston in his remarks for the six life-saving rescues they performed while on duty in South Carolina.
