SELFRIDGE AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, Mich. - Recently arriving home from his Air Force technical school, Airman 1st Class John Pitts arrived at the 127th Civil Engineering Squadron, eager to commence his on the job training as a buildings and structure specialist with the squadron.
“The art of woodwork, drywall, masonry, and concrete has always been a passion of mine,” Pitts said.
In his duties, he’s working with a variety of industrial machines in 127CE’s well-equipped maintenance shop. The Airmen are tasked with a variety of construction and building maintenance duties.
Pitts said he is following a recently-begun “family tradition.” His older brother recently joined the active duty Air Force.
“Climbing the ranks alongside my brother is my desired future” Pitts said.

About the 127th Wing
Comprised of approximately 1,700 personnel and flying both the A-10 Thunderbolt II and the KC-135 Stratotanker, the Michigan Air National Guard's 127th Wing supports Air Mobility Command and Air Combat Command operations by providing highly-skilled Airmen to missions domestically and overseas. The 127th Wing is the host unit at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, which marks its 98th year of continuous military air operations in 2015.
