FORT BRAGG, N.C. - Public affairs Soldiers’ mission in Europe is to provide robust public affairs support to the units on the ground and to the United States Army Europe.
Soldiers from the 22nd Mobile Public Affairs Detachment, 50th Public Affairs Detachment and the 10th Press Camp Headquarters hugged families and friends Oct. 3, as they prepared to depart Fort Bragg and head to Europe in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve.
At the request of the host nations, Operation Atlantic Resolve began in April 2014 with the mission of supporting the U.S. Army’s commitment to NATO and to sustain interoperability with allied forces.
The series of multinational land force military exercises improve the readiness of capable forces for global employment.
As a small military occupational specialty in the Army, many are unaware of the public affairs mission.
Photojournalists, broadcasters, officers and enlisted make up the public affairs world and the main function of PA is to tell the story of Army Soldiers.
Public affairs Soldiers’ mission in Europe is to provide robust public affairs support to the units on the ground and to the United States Army Europe.
Photography, videography, writing stories, editing, media escorting, VIP coordination, and managing social media are just a few responsibilities of public affairs professionals and just a glimpse of some of the work Soldiers will be doing overseas.
For many Soldiers, this deployment will be their first time in Europe.
“I’m excited to be deploying to Europe because it is something different for me,” said Spc. Caitlyn Byrne, assigned to the 10th PCH. “One of the benefits of being in the Army and a part of public affairs is that I get to travel, seeing parts of the world I have never seen.”
Once in Europe, Soldiers will deploy in small teams to different countries including Lithuania, Latvia and Poland.
Under guidance from the 4th Infantry Division, Soldiers will be providing public affairs support to United States Army Europe commanding general, his staff and subordinate units.
“The best part about this mission is working alongside NATO forces and building a better alliance amongst them and United States forces,” said Staff Sgt. Antonio Vincent, 10th PCH. “You don’t get an opportunity like this every day, therefore my team and I will be working hard, creating products that tell the Soldiers’ story to the American people.”
The Soldiers are scheduled to redeploy in the summer of next year.
