NASHVILLE, Tenn. – An Air Force Reserve non-commissioned officer assigned to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District was recently promoted in a ceremony attended by district employees.
Reserve Air Force Staff Sgt. Monica F. White was promoted to technical sergeant by Lt. Col. John L. Hudson, former U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville district commander, in a brief ceremony June 9 at the district headquarters in the Estes Kefauver Federal Building.
Nashville District Public Affairs Specialist and Retired Air Force Master Sgt. Lee Roberts read the non-commissioned officers creed and commented on White’s promotion.
“Rank is very important,” said Roberts. “Promotions are getting very competitive. The Air Force selected her for not only the things she’s done, but her persistence; that says she’s ready for the increased responsibility.”
Theuron Owens, White’s supervisor and a logistics management specialist, administered the oath of office and presented White with an NCO promotional certificate.
White’s family was not in attendance but Hudson and former Nashville District Deputy District Engineer Maj. Brad Morgan placed the new NCO rank insignia on her uniform.
According to Roberts, the Air Force insignia identifies each member’s enlisted rank. Members of the Air Force assume a degree of responsibility equal to their rank. The insignia for Air Force enlisted personnel (above Airman Basic) consists of a chevron of one or more stripes. The background of the chevron is blue and the stripes are silver with a silver star in the center.
According to Ronnie Davis, a transportation technician and co-worker, White has been an outstanding contributor to the district since she arrived.
“I couldn't be more proud of her and this recognition of her job well done,” said Davis. “She is very professional at all times, works hard and well deserving of this promotion.”
White became the vehicle dispatcher for the Nashville District In November 2014. She directly oversees all vehicle dispatch activities and assists with maintenance and management of all GSA vehicles within the district. She assists in executing all processes surrounding vehicle maintenance, emissions, acquisitions, turn-ins and swap-outs.
White is assigned to the district for two-years and Hudson said he was happy to see her earn her promotion.
“She is a great compliment to the success of the district and we appreciate the work she has done since coming to the district,” said Hudson.
Davis said White has made some good changes and accomplished a ton of work since she’s been here. He stressed that it’s not just the day to day tasks she takes on but she is meticulous and sets high standards for her work.
“This is a great accomplishment for White and we are happy to be a part of it,” said Roberts before reading the NCO creed. “It is not easy to get promoted and earning the rank of technical sergeant is a great milestone,” said Roberts.
White made remarks immediately after her promotion and quickly thanked her family for their continued support, love, and guidance. She said this promotion ceremony was special because it was the first formal promotion in a while and she also recognized the district leadership and the Nashville District team for their support.
White has a son, Daniel, who resides in Tallahassee, Florida. She is from Tampa, Florida, and has completed studies towards a bachelor of science degree in Professional Aeronautics at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
She is a graduate of Atlas Aviation Flight Academy and earned an FAA private pilot’s license with over 350 flight hours. She and has earned significant practical and theoretical knowledge of aeronautics, aviation operations and maintenance.
White has also acquired extensive knowledge and experience in vehicle operations. White is a graduate of the Ft. Bliss 43rd Air Defense Artillery Motor Transport Operator School and she’s acquired tactical and general vehicle operations experience.
White previously earned the Top Advanced Individual Training Graduate Award from Ft. Bliss 43rd Air Defense Artillery; Ft. Bliss 43rd Army’s Mentally and Physically Tough Challenge Award; and a variety of Army and Air Force commander’s coins for outstanding or meritorious service recognition.
