    228th Theater Tactical Signal Brigade

NEWBERRY, S.C. - The South Carolina Army National Guard conducted a ceremony at the National Guard armory in Newberry, South Carolina, Aug. 2, officially recognizing and welcoming a new battalion to the 228th Theater Tactical Signal Brigade.

The 1050th Transportation Battalion was previously assigned to the 59th Troop Command with four subordinate elements – 1050th Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment in Newberry, 1052nd Transportation Company in Kingstree, 1053rd Transportation Company in Bennettsville and the 1055th Transportation Company in Laurens.

Command Sgt. Maj. William Bostic, 228th TTSB command sergeant major, explained the reason for the realignment was due in part to the large size of the 59th TC. With the 228th TTSB previously having only one battalion assigned under the command, reassigning the 1050th Trans. Bn. makes it more manageable for higher leadership to spend time with the Soldiers.

“The realignment allows us the ability to provide more resources for the staff in the 1050th,” added Lt. Col. Ryan Price, 228th TTSB deputy commander. “It is also mutually beneficial to both units. We can provide signal assets to them and they can provide transportation assets to us.”

The 1050th Trans. Bn. was established in 2008 and provides transportation support to units throughout the state. The unit has deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and has participated in numerous operations and exercises including the recent statewide hurricane response exercise, Vigilant Guard 2015.

During the ceremony, the 1050th Trans. Bn. received the unit patch from the 228th TTSB officially recognizing the battalion as part of the brigade. The ceremony was also a change of command with Lt. Col. Brad Marlow relinquishing command to Lt. Col. Richard Zeigler III.

The 228th TTSB is headquartered at the University Readiness Center in Spartanburg, South Carolina, with the 151st Expeditionary Signal Battalion as a subordinate unit, also out of Spartanburg.
