JOINT BASE MCGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST, N.J. – The Army Reserve’s 77th Sustainment Brigade hosted a departure ceremony for several of its Soldiers July 2 at the U.S. Air Force Expeditionary Center here.

The 77th’s Forward Detachment 1 is headed to Fort Hood, Texas, for pre-deployment training before reaching its ultimate destination in Iraq.

“Your job of assisting and advising logisticians from the Iraqi Army is essential to the long-term success of the Iraqi military and the future of their country,” said Brig. Gen. Norman B. Green, deputy commanding general of the Army Reserve’s 377th Theater Sustainment Command. “Your efforts will be part of the tremendous work our military has conducted around the world.”

“These folks are a low-quantity, high-quality group of men and women that represents a tremendous amount of Army sustainment power,” added Col. Deborah L. Kotulich, 77th Sustainment Brigade commander.

Joining the Soldiers at the event were Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army Robert J. Maguire, Army Reserve Ambassador Alan V. Davis, and family members of Forward Detachment 1’s Soldiers.

“I want to thank you for all the things you do every day and all the support you give these men and women that enable them to do what they do,” Kotulich said. “You help them, you guide them, you keep them whole and you give them strength.”

“I consider it an honor and a privilege to lead [Forward Detachment 1],” said Col. Gregory L. Parker, Forward Detachment 1 commander.

Previously, the 77th Sustainment Brigade deployed in support of Operation New Dawn to Balad, Iraq, and was responsible for the drawdown of troops and the re-posture of U.S. forces in Northern Iraq.

“The Soldiers from the 77th Sustainment Brigade’s Detachment 1 will be writing the next chapter in the Army Reserve history, a proud story of service and devotion to a great nation,” Green said. “I know their story will make us all proud.”
