GARMISCH-PARTENKIRCHEN, Germany – About 400 military, family members, staff, participants and guests of the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies, U.S. Army Garrison Bavaria – Garmisch Community and Edelweiss Lodge and Resort witnessed the Germany-based, Geschwister Weisheit high-wire troupe July 6 at the Armed Forces Recreation Center’s ELR here.
The free show was brought to the Garmisch community by Armed Forces Entertainment.
Founded in 1900 by Friedrich Wilhelm Weisheit, the troupe features three generations of aerial artists, who in addition to performing classical high wire artistry, incorporate sway poles, ropes, motorbikes and formula racing cars into their repertoire.
According to its website, this troupe is the only aerial act in the world to perform in the open air from the world’s highest giant-sway pole of 62 meters or 203 feet.
The Air-Art-Show featured masts, lasers and acrobats airborne on a high wire with bicycles, unicycles and pyramids.
The show included five-person pyramid with 13 acrobats at a height of 12 meters or 39 feet, the no net or balance pole steep ropewalk, the one-arm handstand on a swaying steel pole, the motorcycle show with 10 acrobats and three motorcycles to a height of 40 meters or 131 feet, and the racing car show up to 30 meters or 98 feet on a rope.
Founded in 1951, Armed Forces Entertainment provides entertainment to U.S. troops and family members stationed overseas.
Armed Forces Recreation Center full-service resort hotels like ELR are joint service facilities that provide family-oriented vacation recreation opportunities to service members, their families, and other authorized patrons of the Total Defense Force.
The USAG Bavaria – Garmisch Community provides programs and services for customers in Southern Bavaria. It supports the Marshall Center and Armed Forces Recreation Center on Sheridan Kaserne, and the NATO School in nearby Oberammergau.
