MARINE CORPS AIR GROUND COMBAT CENTER TWENTYNINE PALMS, Calif. - The first Little Miss Lincoln Military Housing Pageant was held at the Ocotillo Clubhouse, May 30, 2015.

“The hope of this event is to bring the families of LMH closer together while providing a fun event for children,” said Monalisaleilani Atuatasi, administrative assistant, LMH. “Events like this one create memories for the parents to share and keep.”

More than 20 children participated in the event. The pageant consisted of three age groups, newborn to 23 months old, two to three years old and four to six years old. Parents escorted their children across the stage as the participants waved at the audience while their favorite colors and activities were announced.

According to Atuatasi, LMH did research of other pageants and put them together to make their own special pageant for their residents.

“[We] enjoy putting on events like this for the people who live here and [we] want to do more for these families to show that [LMH] cares,” Atuatasi said.

The parents enjoyed the event and were glad to have the opportunity to participate with their children and watch them walk across the stage.

“I thought this was great,” said Katelyn Ryan, mother of Brooke Ryan, 1, and Kyleigh Ryan, 3 weeks. “Getting to see all of the children dress up and do something they want is a good change of pace.”

Each participant received a sash and tiara for participating and all of the children were crowned winners.

“I’m glad that they gave tiaras to all the children,” Ryan said “Now they are all winners.”

After the pageant, the families were invited by LMH to enjoy food and refreshments such as hot dogs, chips, juice and soda. LMH hopes to continue pageants like this one and make them bigger in the future.
