    Commissary Construction continues

    FORT EUSTIS, VA, UNITED STATES

JOINT BASE LANGLEY-EUSTIS, Va. – Shoppers at the Commissary at Fort Eustis, Virginia, can look forward to completion on the store’s current expansion project this upcoming summer.

Awarded in September 2013, the 22-month project included plans for aisle expansions, added square footage to the sales floor and the receiving area, and upgraded equipment. Once completed, the commissary will see an increase of 18,000 square feet of shopping space.

Despite these changes, the part of the project with the biggest impact on the community are the register upgrades said Russell Smith, Fort Eustis Commissary officer.

“We went from 15 registers to less than 10, so we knew that was going to have a major impact,” said Smith. “We’re replacing older registers as well as adding in kiosk-style, self-help registers and long-belt registers so we should go back to having 15 very soon.”

Throughout the project, construction workers have blocked off three aisles at a time to widen them and update the layout of the store. Products that were previously found can still be found, condensed onto nearby aisles temporarily.

“It may seem confusing for a while but it will go back to a standard organizational layout once the construction is complete,” said Smith. “We’re trying to deliver a state-of-the-art, 21st century commissary that is right for the customers.”

Smith hopes the completion of the project will bring customers to the commissary for everything they need.

“If the military community could just be patient and put up with a little inconvenience for a little while longer, it will be worth it,” said Smith. “In just a few short months, we’ll be able to provide one of the best shopping experiences for our customers that money can buy."
