WASHINGTON – NATO Allied Command Transformation hosted the 2015 NATO Transformation Seminar (NTS) in Washington, D.C., March 24-26.
NTS is an opportunity for the secretary general, SACT and their leadership teams of permanent representatives, ambassadors and military representatives to meet and discuss potential changes, challenges, opportunities and strategies for NATO and the Alliance.
"Halfway between two NATO Summits, the aim of this Seminar is to offer a unique opportunity to step back and take time to put in perspective NATO's Transformation in gathering NATO political and military authorities as well as Industry, think tanks and academia," said SACT, French Air Force Gen. Jean-Paul Paloméros.
NATO Transformation Seminar (NTS), hosted by NATO Allied Command Transformation in Washington, D.C., March 24-26, has been an opportunity for the NATO secretary general, the Supreme Allied Commander Transformation (SACT) and their leadership teams of Permanent Representatives (also known as "ambassadors") and military representatives to meet and discuss potential changes, opportunities and strategies for the Alliance.
The seminar focused on implications and perspectives, prioritizing and maximizing investments and responding to hybrid warfare. NATO Secretary General H.E. Jens Stoltenberg addressed seminar attendees during the conference.
"We have to be prepared for the unexpected and stand ready to sustain our efforts for the years to come," he said. "NATO is used to the long haul. Our greatest strength is our ability to adapt."
Strategic awareness remains the key to responding to the increasing level of instability. The seminar emphasized the importance of strategic communication to the NATO Alliance and how it can proactively influence the security environment.
"To defend simultaneously against threats from the East and the South, and from disruptive technologies and threats to the international order, NATO must develop a comprehensive transatlantic strategy that looks beyond mere implementation of the tasks," said Gen. James L. Jones, Jr., U.S. Marine Corps (Retired). "This transformation seminar provides us with a unique opportunity for NATO leadership to develop that strategy."
NTS participants were afforded the opportunity to reflect upon the commitments made at the 2014 Wales Summit and discuss possible changes to the Strategic Concept as well as a new strategy concerning Russia.
The next summit meeting will be hosted by Poland (Warsaw) in 2016. NATO summits provide periodic opportunities for Heads of State and Government of member countries to evaluate and provide strategic direction for Alliance activities.
