SELFRIDGE AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, Mich. -- The Michigan Air National Guard's 107th Fighter Squadron participates in a combat search and rescue exercise in the Barry M. Goldwater Air Force Range, west of Tucson, Ariz., Jan. 29, 2015.
The 107th and related elements of the 127th Wing are participating in a series of training exercises known as Snowbird, while at the Total Force Training Center at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base. The 107th flies the A-10 Thunderbolt II and is assigned to Selfridge Air National Guard Base, Mich.
Operation Snowbird allows military flying units to take advantage of the optimal weather conditions and live-fire ranges available in southern Arizona during the winter months, when home station training may be hampered by snow and ice. About 200 Airmen and 10 aircraft deployed to Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Ariz., on Friday, Jan. 23 and are expected to return to Michigan this weekend.
