Marshall Center professors’ work highlighted in new book on NATO’s future operations after Afghanistan

GARMISCH-PARTENKIRCHEN, Germany – Professors from the College of International Security Studies at the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies wrote chapters in a book – NATO’s Future Operations: What is there for NATO after Afghanistan? –recently released in print as well as on the Centre for European and North Atlantic Affairs’ website.

According to the CENAA website, “The ambition of this publication ... is to offer fresh analytical perspectives on NATO´s way ahead. It provides a political and strategic framework for future operations, offers views from both ‘small’ and ‘big’ member states, and considers both the potential regions and partners with which NATO may be involved. We hope this publication will contribute to better understanding of the context for NATO´s future operations.”

The book is published jointly by the Marshall Center and CENAA, and is supported by the NATO Public Policy Division.

Dr. Matthew Rhodes, professor of National Security Studies from CISS at the Marshall Center, and Dr. Robert Ondrejcsak, director of CENAA and frequent visiting scholar at the Marshall Center, edited the book, which contains six chapters.

Rhodes wrote the second chapter titled Future NATO Operations – Views from the United States. Dr. Ralf Roloff’s chapter is Future NATO operations – possibilities of EU involvement, and former Marshall Center faculty member, U.S. Army Col. Bob Mathers wrote the chapter titled Future NATO Operations and Involving Partners.

“Writing for publication is a difficult and time consuming task – made the more difficult by the challenging and demanding environment of our professional routine here at the college,” said Dr. Robert Brannon, dean of the College of International Security Studies at the Marshall Center.
