    KFOR Regional Command East

CAMP BONDSTEEL, Kosovo – Soldiers from Camp Bondsteel, Kosovo, received a visit on Veterans Day from U.S. Army Europe Command Sgt. Maj. David S. Davenport, Nov. 11.

Soldiers from Multinational Battle Group-East were in attendance as Davenport spoke to them about their mission and discussed the future of the Army.

“It’s important to have an open discussion with Soldiers,” said Davenport. “I represent these Soldiers and I go back with their issues to the Department of the Army. It’s important for me to hear their feedback.”

Mentoring is a key part in developing a Soldier, and Davenport feels it is the most important piece.

“Mentorship has always been a part of our Army, but some leaders have forgotten that aspect of leader development,” said Davenport. “Soldiers need someone with experience; someone that will listen to them and help navigate them to have a successful Army career.”

Sgt. Timothy Brant, an information technology specialist with the 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25 Infantry Division, thought Davenport’s visit was important for Soldiers who want to make the Army a career.

“It was a nice surprise for the Europe command sergeant major to visit us and speak to us about where the Army is headed,” said Brant. “It was helpful to get insight on the way the Army is moving with the draw down.”

Davenport said that his main reason for his visit was to let the Soldiers know that what they do is appreciated.

“I think one of my responsibilities as a senior leader is to remind our Soldiers how immensely proud we are of them and the value they have to us as an organization,” said Davenport. “Without them, we wouldn’t be successful. I couldn’t think of a better time to get to speak with them than on Veterans Day where we recognize the service and sacrifice so many men and women that have gone on before us and, of course, the Soldiers that have given an ultimate sacrifice.”
