    VBIED Discovered Before Being Used
    ZANGILBANA, Iraq -- A vehicle-borne improvised explosive device was discovered March 23 before it could be used by Anti-Iraqi Forces. Acting on a tip, a Quick Reaction Force was dispatched to a home in the village where the VBIED was found along with electronic devices, blasting caps and a 120mm illumination round. Investigating further, the QRF found Iraqi Army ammunition, uniforms and boots.

    Police Officers Receive Crisis Management Training
    JALULA, Iraq -- Soldiers from Troop L, 3rd Squadron, 278th Regimental Combat Team, conducted Crisis Management Training with Iraqi Police Officers. The training, which took place March 15-18, focused on police officers reacting to a crisis situation. The training of officers from the Julala and Sadiyah police stations is the first step in establishing special response teams for their departments.

    Police Officers Get New Equipment
    AZ ZAWIYAH, Iraq -- Az Zawiyah Police Officers are more protected following the issue of equipment March 23. The equipment issued included 9mm handguns, handcuffs, ballistic vests, metal detectors and uniforms for all members of the force. Until the issue many officers had purchased equipment with their own money. Task Force Liberty Soldiers from 1st Battalion, 103rd Armor Regiment, oversaw the issue.

    Training Enhances Iraqi Army's Role in Securing Peace
    BAQUBA, Iraq -- Soldiers from 4th Platoon, Company B, 204th Iraqi Army Battalion, underwent squad-level training March 19. The training, given by cadre from 2nd Battalion, 69th Armor Regiment, focused on dismounted patrolling, reporting procedures and basic rifle marksmanship. Training of this type is meant to enhance the effectiveness of the Soldiers responsible for providing security to the people of Diyala Province.

    Iraqi Patrol Detains Two, Finds IED Materials
    BURHIZ, Iraq -- While conducting a cordon and search operation, soldiers from the 204th Iraqi Army Battalion discovered instructions for using a rocket-propelled grenade in the possession of two men. Soldiers then searched a home of one of the individuals and found materials used to make an improvised explosive device. The Iraqi Army is using information from the suspects to further its investigation.

    Iraqi Army Presence Hopes to Limit Attacks
    BAQUBAH, Iraq -- An area of palm groves used in previous mortar attacks on the civil military operations center is being heavily patrolled by the Iraqi Army. Soldiers from the 213th Iraqi Army Battalion, along with elements of 1st Battalion, 10th Field Artillery Regiment, are stepping up their presence in the area in hopes of eliminating further attacks.



    Two Men Arrested for Selling Weapons
    MUQDADIYAH, Iraq -- Two men illegally selling weapons in the Al-Suq Market have been apprehended by Iraqi soldiers. The soldiers, from the Iraqi Army's 205th Battalion, arrested the men after receiving a tip from an Iraqi citizen. The arrest led to the seizure of several pistols, two AK-47's, ammunition magazines and a bayonet.

    Iraqi Soldiers Deflect Attack After VBIED Detonates
    AL ABARRA, Iraq -- Iraqi soldiers showed their resolve to provide security to this city by repelling an insurgent attack. The engagement followed a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device and a rocket-propelled grenade attack March 20. The soldiers, assigned to Company D, 213th Iraqi Army Battalion, quickly crushed the follow-on attack.

    Coalition Forces Assess Villagers Health
    SAADONIA, Iraq -- During a medical assistance visit March 19, medical personnel discovered widespread disease and medical issues among these villagers. The Soldiers, from Company C, 145th Support Battalion, and 1st Battalion, 163rd Infantry Regiment, say a lack of preventive medicine and harsh living conditions are to blame for many of the health problems.

    Workgroup Looks at Ways to Protect Oil Refineries
    TIKRIT, Iraq -- Commanders of Iraqi Army and Oil Security Battalions attended a forum to discuss ways to protect oil pipelines and refineries. The workshop, held March 22, focused on ways to coordinate efforts to protect Iraq's most valued resource.

    Medical Center Nears Completion
    SULAYMANIYAH, Iraq -- Minor electrical work and site cleanup are all that remains before the Sulaymaniyah Dialysis Center begins offering medical services to the people of this city. The contractor, hoping to be finished before the end of the week, is going to contact the Ministry of Health for a final inspection.

    Call-In Show Allows Citizens to Ask Questions
    KIRKUK, Iraq -- Residents of Kirkuk are afforded the opportunity to ask questions of its leaders during a call-in show on Iraqi Media Network TV. The 75-minute program, held twice a week, gives citizens a forum to find out what is happening in the area through a dialogue with panelists. The IMN operates both radio and television stations and employs about 90 people in Kirkuk.
