HONG KONG- Sailors assigned to Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Antietam (CG 54) participated in a community relations (COMREL) event at Po Leung Kuk Comfort Court for Seniors, June 18.
The purpose of the COMREL was to allow Sailors to interact with members of the local community while providing assistance to the residents and managers of the home.
“It was nice to be able to give back to the communities who host us during these port visits,” said Religious Programs Specialist Seaman Mark Lognion. “It was a good turnout and it’s great to know that we helped brighten people’s day.”
During the event the Sailors interacted and played games with the elderly, including telephone, charades, and some classic Chinese guessing games. They also talked to residents of the home about their jobs in the military and life aboard a ship.
“It was fun,” said Gunner’s Mate Seaman Becky Hinman. “You could tell the people there were really happy to have us. They gave us some little gifts at the end. I’m glad I went.”
Antietam is currently on patrol in the 7th Fleet area of operations in support of security and stability in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
