    NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - A small group of Soldiers stands in formation with their friends and family gathered around them. A few words are spoken, and the Soldiers say their goodbyes before they move out for deployment.

    Twenty-four Soldiers from the 492nd Transportation Detachment (Harbormaster), 10th Transportation Battalion, 7th Transportation Brigade (Expeditionary) departed for a nine-month deployment after a ceremony at the Army Training Support Center, Fort Eustis, Va., May 16, 2014.

    The “Sea Masters” will deploy to Kuwait, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. They will perform duties for the Department of Defense as well as coalition forces.

    ”U.S. Army Maj. Matt Panepinto, executive officer, 10th Trans. Bat., 7th Trans. Bde. (Ex), shared remarks with the departing Soldiers and their families.

    “Once again the nation calls on the 492nd to deploy in support of OEF, but that call goes out to more than just the Soldiers,” said Panepinto. “Emotions are running high as both a sense of pride and sadness fill our hearts. There is pride knowing that our loved ones are answering the call of duty and service to the nation, a call they have freely chosen.”

    During the deployment, they will also be responsible for; port management, watercraft safety and planning, as well coordinating and supervising watercraft missions throughout the central commands area of responsibility.

    Before departing, Panepinto thanked the families saying “thank you for your support, with out it none of this would be possible. The strength of our Army lies in our Soldiers, the strength of our Soldiers lies with in our family.”
