MILLINGTON, Tenn. - Navy Rear Adm. Annie B. Andrews, originally from Midway, Ga., was recently assigned the Navy's top recruiter as commander, Navy Recruiting Command in a ceremony held Aug. 29.

Andrews is the daughter of retired Capt. Electa Andrews of the Liberty County Sheriff's Department who attended the ceremony along with her sister Deborah Dawson and her husband, Lorenzo Dawson, and nephew DeAngelo Dawson.

Andrews’ career spans three decades of service. A Navy human resources officer, her assignments have been primarily in the areas of manpower, personnel, training and education. Her previous assignment was in Washington, D.C., where she held the position of director for the total force requirements division.

She attended the Liberty County School in Midway, Ga., and Philadelphia High School for Girls in Philadelphia. Andrews received a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice from Savannah State University where she earned her commissioning through the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps. She also received a Master of Science degree in management and has been conferred an honorary doctorate degree in humane letters. Andrews also has earned a master’s degree in national security and strategic studies from the Naval War College and graduated from the Joint Forces Staff College as a joint qualified officer.

During the change of command ceremony Andrews recognized the warm welcome she received from the Recruiting staff and commented that she is pleased to be a part of the Navy’s recruiting team.

"The enthusiasm, passion and commitment of the Recruiting Headquarters and the two regions' support staffs, and the recruiters that I have met have been tremendous,” said Andrews.

Andrews comes to Navy Recruiting Command with a wealth of experience in the recruiting pipeline. She served as commanding officer of the Boston Military Entrance Processing Station, Navy Recruiting District San Francisco, and the Navy's one and only Recruit Training Command, located in Great Lakes, Ill.

Navy Recruiting Command is comprised of approximately 7,000 employees, both civilian and military. The command is divided into two regions; Region East and Region West, and includes 26 districts with 1,500 recruiting stations located across the country.

"Now more than ever, the future of our fleet depends on the efforts that are made every day to find the best of the best to join our Navy family; a team of dedicated volunteers meeting critical challenges here at home and around the world," said Andrews.

Andrews is committed to a workforce that thrives on strong integrity-based leadership, spirited teamwork, and a commitment to excellence.

During a meeting with her headquarters management staff, Andrews commented that each individual is a highly-valued member of the recruiting team and each person's role is vitally important to the recruiting mission.

"We are a global, deployed, warfighting force tasked with the strategic defense of our nation. The chief of naval operations states in his Sailing Directions that 'ready sailors and civilians will remain the source of the Navy’s warfighting capability. And here, at Navy Recruiting Command, is where it all begins.'"
