SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. –Team Shaw participated in a Comprehensive Airman Fitness day April 26, and for their achievements on this day Air Combat Command awarded Shaw with the 2nd Quarter Best Practice Award.

Shaw is the first base to win this new award. “All ACC bases submitted action reports from their respective CAF day,” said Erica Brown, the master resilience trainer installation lead here.

"It is great to see the hard work of those who put together the agenda be recognized by HQ ACC," said U.S. Air Force Col. Clay Hall, 20th Fighter Wing commander. "The IDS (Integrated Delivery System) put together a fantastic program, planned the day's itinerary, and when the day was done produced a meaningful CAF day for Team Shaw. Most importantly, it verifies how well we are taking care of our Airmen, their families and our AF civilians. We are helping our Airmen become more resilient and better equipped to deal with the rigors of military life."

The CAF day was designed to help change the Air Force culture, to focus on resiliency and teach Airmen how to bring home what they learn at work, Karan Godette, the Community Support Coordinator and IDS director here explained.

“The events included a Sexual Assault Response Coordinator run, squadron commander calls and small group discussions, resiliency training, Air Force four pillars of Comprehensive Airman Fitness training, and the 20th Fighter Wing motorcycle ride,” said Godette.

“In order to do bigger and better things in the future the IDS teams will have to think outside the box and look at the total Airman, not just the one in uniform,” Brown added.

The next CAF day is scheduled for Sept. 27 and will focus on the mental pillar of Comprehensive Airman Fitness.
