Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. PARRIS ISLAND, S.C. - Recruits of Charlie Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, completed the combat fitness test Aug. 6, 2013, on Parris Island, S.C.

The CFT, which simulates a wide range of physical challenges one might face in combat, evaluates strength, stamina, agility and coordination. The test is a graduation requirement and an annual training event for all Marines. Charlie Company is scheduled to graduate Aug. 23, 2013.
