FORT SILL, Okla. – On a day when temperatures reached more than 100 degrees, soldiers of the 366th Military Police Company from Stillwater, Okla., battled through the heat and sweat during a firefight-filled training exercise here June 27.

The 366th MP Company is made of three platoons. First and 2nd are located in Stillwater, Okla., while 3rd Platoon is situated in Huntsville, Texas. Because of this separation, the platoon leaders are charged with keeping their soldiers up to standard with training.

“The commander has pretty much designated the platoon leaders to come up with the training,” said 1st Lt. Clinton Roberts, the platoon leader of 2nd platoon 366th MP Company

Little Chicago was the stage to test the knowledge of 1st and 2nd platoons and their ability to conduct an urban assault mission said Cpl. Ryan Metzger, the personnel services noncommissioned officer for 366th MP Company
Metzger is a member of 3rd platoon and played the part of an enemy combatant for the opposing forces in Little Chicago.

“Both platoons communicated and performed well,” said Metzger.

The mission consisted of a cordon and search of Little Chicago said Roberts.

With the use of Humvees, each platoon took a turn providing a search team and a security perimeter around Little Chicago said Roberts.

“The assault element, which I was part of, dismounted and systematically cleared each building,” said Roberts.
Both the assault element and the soldiers in the security perimeter had much to deal with while trying to secure Little Chicago.

“We were warned that the enemy liked to place IED’s inside buildings and on roads,” said Roberts. “They also had a weapons cache there and they operated in six to eight man elements.”

While battling the heat and enemy forces Roberts says that he was satisfied with how the training went.

“Motivation was extremely high, even though it was insanely hot out there,” said Roberts.

Sgt. Christopher Westcott agreed saying, “The training was extremely successful. I was pleasantly surprised how well everything came together.”

Westcott is a military police officer with the 366th MP Company and a police officer in the Tulsa Police Department.
The MPs, through their successful training, managed to beat the heat in the pursuit of excellence as military police officers.
