Last Marines arrive, all Guahan Shield personnel here

    Story by Capt. Justin Jacobs

    III Marine Expeditionary Force

DEDEDO, Guam - The last members of Lima Company, 3rd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division arrived here Feb. 25, rounding out the final personnel deployed to Guam in support of Exercise Guahan Shield.

Okinawa-based Marines and sailors with III Marine Expeditionary Force will be training on Guam from now until May, conducting various training evolutions, on existing training facilities.

Training opportunities during Guahan Shield affords III MEF Marines and sailors unique expeditionary training opportunities and environments, as well as facilitates interactions with the local communities on Guam and the surrounding Mariana Islands through community engagements and community relations projects.

Marines and sailors are thoroughly trained to meet their mission requirements. Guahan Shield enables III MEF forces to expand upon and increase their proficiency in those skills using the unique training environments Guam offers.

III MEF regularly conducts training throughout the Asia-Pacific region; however Guam provides additional, unique training environments on U.S. soil and a chance for service members to learn about the extensive historical relevance of the island and the Chamorro culture.
