    Soldier Sentenced to Three Years in Prison Following Guilty Plea

    CAMP AL-TAHREER, Iraq -- A Task Force Baghdad Soldier convicted for murdering an Iraqi civilian was sentenced to three years in prison, reduction to the rank of private (E-1), forfeiture of all pay and a dishonorable discharge, Dec. 10.

    Staff Sgt. Johnny M. Horne pled guilty to one specification of murder in violation of Article 118 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice and one specification of conspiracy to commit murder in violation of Article 81.

    A panel of seven senior service members passed the sentence at 11:30 p.m., after hearing testimony from the prosecution and the defense.

    They deliberated for approximately four hours before reaching their decision.

    The convictions stemmed from Horne's murder of a severely wounded Iraqi civilian in Baghdad's Sadr City District, Aug. 18.
