NASA engineers and Navy divers and sailors assigned to the amphibious transport dock ship USS Arlington (LPD 24) tow a 1-1 scale mockup of the Orion spacecraft in to the well deck of Arlington. This phase one test was to determine the best method for recovering NASA's newest manned spacecraft after earth re-entry and splash down in the ocean. The test was conducted pier side at Naval Station Norfolk Aug 15. Phase 2 will be an open ocean recovery simulation in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of California in 2014.
