    The Navy’s newest Flight III Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer, the future USS Ted Stevens (DDG 128), sails alongside the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Daniel Inouye (DDG 118) off the coast of San Diego, Sept. 17, 2026. The historic transit mirrors the deep partnership and "brotherhood" of their namesakes, decorated World War II veterans U.S. Sen. Ted Stevens of Alaska and U.S. Sen. Daniel Inouye of Hawaii, who jointly championed Pacific defense initiatives and represented the strategic maritime interests of their non-contiguous home states. Ted Stevens is the first warship to bear the late senator’s name, honoring his legacy of defense advocacy alongside his lifelong Senate colleague and close friend. An integral part of U.S. Pacific Fleet, U.S. 3rd Fleet operates naval forces in the Indo-Pacific and provides realistic, relevant training necessary to execute the U.S. Navy’s role across the full spectrum of military operations, from combat operations to humanitarian assistance and disaster response.
