    82nd Airborne Division and British XXX Corps flags commemorating the 82nd anniversary of Operation Market Garden are displayed in Groesbeek, Netherlands, Sept. 17, 2026. As the United States marks 250 years of independence, Operation Market Garden commemorations offer a living example of the long relationship between Americans and the Dutch. From Dutch trade and support during the American Revolution, symbolized by the First Salute at St. Eustatius in 1776, to American and Allied forces fighting together in the Netherlands in 1944, that history continues today through communities that preserve the memory of the those who served and through and enduring U.S.-Dutch partnership.
