An aerial-perspective view of a river lock and dam facility, likely on a major U.S. inland waterway, showing active construction or maintenance operations. The facility includes concrete lock structures, cranes, storage tanks, and support buildings situated along a wide river with forested banks on the opposite shore. A parking area with numerous vehicles and what appears to be a barge on the river are also visible.

Critical repair work is underway at Olmsted Locks and Dam in Olmsted, Illinois, Sept. 14, 2016, one of the busiest and most important navigation facilities in the U.S. inland waterways system. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Louisville District, in partnership with the Regional Rivers Repair Fleet (R3F), is working to return the facility’s land chamber to service as quickly and safely as possible.
