    Kyle Carman, interim fire chief for the Tempe Fire Medical Rescue Department, fist bumps a fellow firefighter during the Tunnel to Towers Foundation 5K run honoring victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, at Tempe Beach Park in Tempe, Arizona, Sept. 13, 2026. Carman was carrying a flag honoring Gary Herold, a man who died in the South Tower while guiding his coworkers to the stairwell during the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center. Gary’s brother, John Herold, was a volunteer event director for the Tunnel to Towers memorial in Tempe, Arizona.
