U.S. Navy Senior Chief Navy Diver Melissa Nguyen-Alarcon, a master diver assigned to Pacific Partnership 2026 (PP26), briefs a mass casualty drill presentation to U.S. and Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) divers and undersea medical officers during a PP26 maritime search and rescue diver and undersea medical training engagement at Hospital Angkatan Tentera Wilayah Kota Kinabalu, a MAF hospital, in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia, Sept. 11, 2026. On site, divers and undersea medical officers from the U.S. Navy and MAF collaborated in surface-supplied diving operations and casualty extraction brief to refine joint search and rescue procedures and streamline casualty transitions to emergency care, improving maritime emergency readiness and enhancing civil-military disaster response coordination in the region. Now in its 22nd iteration, the Pacific Partnership series is the largest annual multinational humanitarian assistance and disaster management preparedness mission conducted in the region. Pacific Partnership works collaboratively with host and partner nations to enhance regional interoperability and disaster response capabilities, increase security in the region, and foster new and enduring friendships in the Indo-Pacific.
