Two Coast Guard Station Ponce de Leon Inlet boat crews respond to a downed aircraft with one person aboard that washed ashore on New Smyrna Beach, Florida, Aug. 27, 2026. The boat crews ensured the pilot was being assisted ashore, provided a safety zone, and conducted sweeps for debris and pollution; the pilot was able to safely egress the plane and received care from local emergency medical services with no known injuries before being transported to a local hospital for an evaluation.
