A man in a dress shirt and tie speaks at a wooden podium outdoors, likely at a memorial or dedication ceremony. In the foreground, a sculpture made from crushed/mangled red vehicle parts is mounted on a metal stand, accompanied by firefighter gear and a small red flag. The setting appears to be outside a brick building, possibly a fire station.

U.S. Air Force Retired Senior Master Sgt. Christopher McCrary speaks at the September 11, 2001 remembrance event, 104th Fighter Wing, Westfield, MA, September 11, 2026. McCrary spoke about his day on September 11, 2001. "I was on an aircraft, my very first flight, passing by the New York Skyline, on my way to basic training in San Antonio, TX" said McCrary. "What none of us knew, was that flight 11 was already hijacked, sharing our airspace right behind us." He continued to talk about how they passed over Washington, DC while his flight remained calm and quiet and knew of nothing happening around them. When the flight landed in Atlanta they found out that the world had stopped. McCrary was a young man headed to basic training, watching his world get attacked. He then knew the full gravity of what he signed up for. (U.S. Air National Guard Photo by Melanie J. Casineau)
