Chief Selects assigned to commands at Naval Construction Battalion Center (NCBC) Gulfport took part in a reenactment of the Battle of Dong Xoai on June 10, 1965, onboard NCBC Gulfport, Miss., Sept. 10, 2026. Every year, Chief Selects from NCBC Gulfport commemorate the Battle of Dong Xoai by reenacting the events and the heroic actions of Construction Mechanic 3rd Class Marvin Shields Shields' posthumous Medal of Honor citation.
