Sailors walk up flights of stairs at the Pacific Beacon during Naval Base San Diego’s (NBSD) annual Sept. 11 “Climb to Remember” event. Commemorating the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, Sailors, civilians, families, and community members gathered to climb 110 stories of the Pacific Beacon, a challenge representing each of the World Trade Center buildings tragically brought down during the attacks. Established in 1922, NBSD is the largest West coast naval installation and principal homeport of the Pacific Fleet, U.S. more than 60 combatant and auxiliary surface ships and more than 250 shore commands.
