A ceremony commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks takes place at the Memoria e Luce (Memory and Light) monument in Padova, Italy, Sept. 11, 2026. The 56-foot glass structure, designed like an open book facing Lower Manhattan, displays a 20-foot twisted steel beam salvaged from the South Tower of the World Trade Center. The beam was donated by the United States to the Veneto Region and the City of Padova, highlighting the enduring partnership between both nations. U.S. Army Col. Vaughn D. Strong Jr. commander of U.S. Army Garrison Italy represented the command team and delivered remarks on the ongoing cooperation between the two allies. (U.S. Army photo by Sgt. Salvador Castro)
