Peruvian Army instructors, 5th Amazon Protection Brigade, demonstrate how to identify plants for food and medicinal purposes to U.S. and Peruvian soldiers during jungle survival training at Exercise Southern Vanguard, Sauce, Peru on Sept. 10, 2026. SV26 brings together approximately 400 warfighters to execute a field training exercise and command post exercise in a demanding austere jungle environment. The training includes combined operations designed to simulate real-world contingencies in the complex terrain of the Amazon Jungle hills of Sauce, Peru.
